Chore Service
One of the most important responsibilities of a community is to ensure care for its elderly and disabled residents. This is the mission of the Chore Service which supplements the essential help of family members, friends, congregations, the Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association, Salisbury Family Services, Senior Services, Geer, Noble Horizons and others.
Chore provides support to elderly and disabled people in Salisbury as well as in Canaan, Cornwall, Falls Village, Kent, Norfolk and Sharon so that they can stay safely and independently in their homes. Our program also provides income for local part-time workers. They perform thousands of hours of service which include light and heavy housekeeping, shopping, laundry, cooking, yard maintenance, minor home repair and dog walking.
Clients contribute toward the cost of services based on federal income guidelines. In addition to these contributions, Chore receives grants from local town governments and the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging. It is reimbursed for some services through CT Community Care. An annual operating shortfall of about $80,000 is covered through donor contributions. 92% of Chore's expenses go directly to serve our clients.
If you know of anyone who needs affordable help at home or would like to be part-time Chore workers, please contact Ella Clark, Chore's Executive Director, at 860-364-1003, email us at www.choreservice.org. or Patrice McGrath at Salisbury Family Services, at 860-435-5187
