Salisbury/Sharon Transfer Station Partnership

The Boards of Selectmen in Salisbury and Sharon have been meeting throughout the last six months to formalize an agreement between our towns for a long-term disposal and management of our solid waste. We have worked together successfully for over 30 years, and we look forward to continued cooperation as we proceed to construct a new transfer station at the new site on Rt. 44 in Salisbury.

The agreement, known as the Salisbury Sharon Resource Recovery Authority (SSRRA), calls for equal sharing of costs and responsibilities for the purchase, construction and management of the new site. The actual cost of waste disposal would continue to be on a per capita basis (currently Salisbury 60%-Sharon 40%). Each town would have 3 voting representatives. In the event of a termination of the partnership, the actual property would revert to Salisbury, with appropriate compensation to Sharon.

We will hold a Town Vote on this proposal on Friday, April 3rd at 7:30 pm in the Salisbury Town Hall. Sharon has already voted unanimously to join the SSRRA, and they will schedule a follow-up meeting to clarify the terms and arrange for financing. Assuming a positive result, planning for the new facility would begin after the vote, with representatives from each town. Residents who are interested in this agreement are encouraged to click on the link below to read the draft agreement before any Town Vote.

A town informational meeting was held on March 3, 2009, and several questions were asked by residents. Please review the following questions and answers concerning the SSRRA.

Thank you.

WPCA Some proposed changes to the WPCA (Sewer Commission) Ordinance will be voted on at the April 3rd meeting. These changes would increase the membership from 5 to 7, create staggered terms, and allow property owners, even if non-resident, to serve on WPCA. The draft Ordinance changes will be available in the Town Clerk’s office during the week of April 23.
